The focus of prayer should be to admit our dependence on GOD. Yes, we should do all that we can do – with GOD’s help. There are times we come to prayer with an attitude of superiority and self-righteousness. We turn to GOD in prayer, hoping that GOD would pat us on the back and say, “Great job!”. Our attitude is sometimes prideful just like the Pharisee in today’s Gospel. When we humbly come into GOD’s presence, acknowledging who GOD is and how much we need GOD’s help, we will sense a closeness in our relationship with Him.
Adults: Do I come into GOD’s presence humbly or do I let pride get in my way?
Children: When I pray, am I admitting that I need GOD?
